Shirley Jean (Austin) Stultz, 88, of Terre Haute, passed away on the evening of Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024.
She was born February 5, 1936 in Vigo County to Albert Herschel and Susie Elizabeth (Slaughter) Austin.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 66 years, James L. Stultz, three children, son James A. and wife Billie, daughter Joyce and husband Anthony, and son Kent and wife Tammy. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Lindley and husband Derek, Meredith and husband Caleb, Layna and husband Donavan, Austin and wife Lindsay, Gregory and wife Corrin, Landon and wife Karlee, and Graham. Shirley’s family also includes four great-grandchildren, Emery, Madeline, Brooklyn and Adelyn.
She is also survived by sisters, Helen Fleschner, Patty McCormick, and Linda Secrest, and by brother-in-law Paul Stultz and wife Carol, brother-in-law Virgil Williams, and sisters-in law Paulette Cottrell, and Elsie Stultz, and many nieces and nephews.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Dorothy Austin, Kenneth Austin, Martha Mae Austin, Mary Rogers, Catherine Compton, Robert Austin, Betty Lee, Marlene Shafer, Darlene Bennett, and Larry Austin.
Shirley was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with her husband, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, all her family, and many friends. She was a devoted Christian who enjoyed worship and fellowship and served in ministry as a donation secretary, Sunday school teacher, member of the ladies’ prayer group, and many other positions in her local congregation. She retired from the Vigo County Welfare Department as an accounting clerk many years ago.
Arrangements will be handled by DeBaun Funeral Home in Terre Haute with visitation on Friday, April 5, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and services on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastors Joe Gormong and Dennis Moody officiating, followed by interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in remembrance of Shirley may be made to Gentiva Hospice.
